The purpose of the National Observatory of Electromagnetic Fields (NOEF) is the continuous and reliable monitoring of compliance to the reference levels for general public exposure to high-frequency electromagnetic fields, as defined by the Greek legislation.

Its operation is based on a network of fixed and mobile electromagnetic field (EMF) monitoring stations, and the NOEF provides to the public online access to the measurement results. This network monitors EMF emissions from all kinds of wireless communications networks and broadcast stations (licensed and unlicensed).

Therefore, the NOEF monitors general public exposure to high-frequency electromagnetic fields emitted from all kinds of antenna stations. The NOEF’s operation started in October of 2015. The NOEF was a project implemented by the Information Society S.A. on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks (currently Ministry of Digital Governance) and EEAE.

Its implementation was funded by the Operational Program ‘Digital Convergence’ of Greece’s/EU ‘National StrategicReference Framework’ 2007–2013 with a total budget of 4.8 million euros.

NOEF is now operated and controlled by EEAE.
